This Week: Oregon’s Corona virus lockdown continues, in spite of models that have proven consistently to be consistently wrong. Which leaves us to wonder, why is the corona virus lockdown still in place?

One of the questions that has truly troubled us at I Spy is, if we’ve spent billions on healthcare in Oregon and 100s of billions nationally, where did all that money go? Especially in light of how unprepared medical providers were for a crisis.

Does anyone remember when Governor Kitzhaber ran on the fact that “we must be prepared” — and then tossed Oregon’s healthcare system on its ear in in his grand “health care transformation”? But from all reports coming out of Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and media services, prepared has turned into an oxymoron.

Corona Virus Lockdown: Questions for Bud Pierce

In our Part Two interview with Dr. Bud Pierce, an oncologist and hematologist specialist, we take on the numbers. Numbers that are being put out by Oregon’s own OHA, along with those from the federal governments, that depend on models so very reminiscent of climate change models. Overblown and/or unreliable but designed to evoke responses from the public.

Are Corona Virus “Deaths” Reliable?

One question we have is about the deaths. Deaths that, according to CDC guidelines, are being attributed to COVID-19 even without tests to verify they did, in fact, have the virus.

Theoretically, according to the guidelines, if you committed suicide, and might have had COVID-19, then Corona virus could be listed on the death certificate as the cause of death. Thus adding to the total of Coronavirus deaths. Is this just a little odd? We talk to Dr. Pierce what protocols are in place for how corona virus deaths are counted along with other troubling methods being used. And do we do this for other diseases?

We also wanted to have him back on to ask a question we’d wanted to ask him last week: What will we do next year when virus and flu season starts up again? Plus. We ask him questions from listeners who wrote in this week, wanting to know such things as the reliability of the numbers being used? Can the virus be transferred to pets? Has the curve flattened here in Oregon? And does he ever see a time when we go back to handshakes and hugs?

Corona Virus Lockdown’s Impact on Churches

Which leads us into the second half of our show, and the impact of Gov. Kate’s decision on large groups — especially churches.

With it being Easter weekend we brought in Pastor Jeff Poush of Salem First Baptist. During the pandemic when so much of our focus is on our physical health and the health of on our economy, what can people do for their spiritual health? We ask Pastor Poush the efforts his church is undertaking to support the spiritual health of their members during a time of physical separation and social distancing.

What If the Corona Virus Lockdown Continues?

We also discuss how the pandemic and ban on large groups has affected his church. And what if this continues? Are there concerns for churches regarding First Amendment rights? And how not gathering as a congregation may impact future events for churches? And, with it being Easter weekend, we find out some of the inspirational and exciting things Pastor Poush and his colleagues’ have planned for Easter morning service.

Then, dark side. We’d planned to talk Christmas, movies, pop-culture and a little politics with our next guest, James Hirsen. But then just hours before our interview, Nancy Pelosi took to the mic and announced that—despite Wednesday’s disastrous hearings with the highly partisan testimonies from the Democrats’ “constitutional experts”—the Democrats were lurching forward to draft articles of impeachment.

So, instead of talking Christmas we tap into James Hirsen wearing his attorney hat, and his recent articles of why the Democrats really should not want the impeachment to head to the Senate.  Mr. Hirsen walks us through his analysis of how they’re moving forward in spite of the reality of no evidence.

And don’t miss his discussion on how President Trump’s almost off-hand inquiry about Ukraine having the Crowd Strike server may have been what really set off the latest impeachment attempt and why.  Where is the server and why hasn’t it been turned over? Or destroyed like so many other pieces of hardware that had evidence on the Democrats?

Democrats in power are probably a little nervous about that.

This Week: A look at the rise of “acceptable hate”: antisemitism. The world seems to have forgotten the Holocaust, because right now antisemitism is surging again in Europe. And lest you think this is merely “anti-Israel”, you need to know that Leftist politicians have been spotted in marches where shouts of “Hamas! Hamas! Jews to the gas!” have filled the streets.

How is this happening? And why?

Antisemitism: Big-Government Sponsored Hate

Big government demands conformity from its subjects. And uniformity. You must be part of the group and those outside the desired conformity, are labelled dissidents, and targeted for hate. And even removal. We’ve seen it before throughout history with the Holocaust but we’re seeing it again now in places like Hong Kong.

Surprisingly, we’re also seeing it from the Left right now in the EU and even right here in the U.S. It’s not just the Left’s embrace of socialism that’s worrying, it’s the fringe elements of hate: antisemitism. While not unique to the Left, hatred of Israel and, by extension, Jews, seems to have become almost mainstream within the Far Left.

This is deeply worrisome. Especially to someone whose parents lived through the Holocaust.

Why Antisemitism Matters

Because the rise of antisemitism gives rise to hate of all sorts. The snowball effect of hate spreads and it becomes mob hate – not just the hate of individuals but of hate directed to an entire race.  The mob hate finds its way to those in power who begin to preach the politics of hate and the hatred of a race simply because of their existence.

This week, we’re pleased to welcome Dr. Evelyn Markus, an activist against antisemitism. An author and speaker, she is the hand behind Never Again is Now, a terrific film about not forgetting the lessons of the holocaust  in the face of rising antisemitism in Europe and even right here at home

Dr. Markus’ parents lived through the worst of the politics of hate. After The Netherlands were conquered, the Jews—who had been welcomed and lived a quiet, wonderful life in The Netherlands—were targeted by the Nazis.  Then, after what they thought were incidental acts of discrimination, the Jewish people realized too late that things were growing out of control.  Forced to wear yellow stars affixed to their clothes and before long, entire families were loaded into trains without knowing where they were going. And it was too late to stop it.

And, cruelly, neighbors turned on neighbors. Even worse, collaborators turned in those in hiding or who might have escaped. Neighborhoods were emptied never to see many of their once friends, ever again.

Dr. Markus’ parents survived the Nazi occupation — miraculously escaping with their entire family intact when many of their friends had only a few family members survived or were wiped out altogether.  Dr. Markus talks to us about her parents’ life, what it was like for them to go through it all, and the very real world of seeing how good people behaved when their lives were at stake.  Some who you’d think would be brave crumbled, while others who hardly appeared destined for greatness, did great things.

Antisemitism on the Rise? Again?

But Dr. Markus’ story doesn’t end there. That’s really just the beginning. Her story is about her realization that—despite the shadow of WWII and so many personal stories of loss—that antisemitism was rearing its ugly head in Europe after 9/11. Things became so bad that she left Europe, only to realize it was spreading in her newly adopted  homeland: the U.S.

This Week: There are many breaking news stories this week that center on the Flynn case and those who were in power that manipulated events, and then the messaging, to create illusions through storytelling techniques. It’s in the same vein of Disinformation, which we’ve recently covered. This week we take a break from all the breaking news of the Russian collusion hoax, except for one thing, how storytelling is usually won by the far-left.

Using Storytelling Techniques over Facts

People love a good story and if it’s presented well and is intriguing, it becomes believable. To the point that stories can become more believable (and certainly more memorable) than the reality.

Is this why mainstream media stories have taken on the fascination of a reality TV show? They’re staged with heroes and villains in ways that borrow from storytelling techniques to make their version of the story more believable than the facts themselves. Like Trump and Ukraine quid pro quo.

Hollywood: Epicenter of Storytelling

The political Left does this with far more skill than the Right. Hollywood certainly knows this with the billions they make off of storytelling. And that’s where they get you twice, because many times when news stories become too much reality TV, folks turn to “entertainment” as a way to escape—only to be listening to storytelling that often goes against their beliefs and values.

Hollywood has created a vacuum of messaging when Christians allowed the Far Left to take control and stopped going to movies (like who can blame them?), which allowed Hollywood to gravitate to their liberal counterparts in politics and the media.

Going over the Walls: The Chosen

But as in the story of David and Goliath, small nuggets of Christian storytelling continued to rise through the noise. And Christians are finding ways around the Hollywood paradigm. Enter Dallas Jenkins—director of the series, The Chosen—who raised $10 million dollars online, the largest amount ever from online crowd-sourcing for a film series.

The Chosen is a tremendous series about the life of Jesus told from a unique perspective. Staying out of Hollywood’s normal methods for creating and distributing a film, Mr. Jenkins went directly to the people, who in turn stood up to support this incredible project. And it paid off.

The Chosen: Breaking Down Barriers

With the funding he needed, Jenkins created a stunning series with all of the production value you’d see in even more expensive projects, like Amazon’s Jack Ryan series. Created as a multi-season series, the first four episodes are now free to view if you go to thechosen.tv, where you can download it as an app, watch it on your laptop, or stream to your TV.

Tune in this week to hear what has made this series so successful and why, with hundreds of films and TV shows already out there about Jesus, theirs has been such a success.

Hirsen: Why Hollywood Targets Christians

Then we welcome back James Hirsen, who continues the discussion of the different ways filmmakers, that Hollywood studios don’t support, are using to get their storytelling into the mainstream. He discusses the shift in the way stories will reach consumers in this evolving technical world—and how the far-left has been able to maximize their hold on Hollywood, through culture and lifestyle.

Hollywood and The Left’s Censorship

But with all these fascinating stories and their end-around on Hollywood, there is a deeper movement by the Far Left to censor the political Right and especially Christians. Censorship is the new weapon in their attacks. We’ve already by Democrat candidates like Kamala Harris to actually censor the President of the United States from Twitter, (which would force him to use the Leftist media to try to talk to the American people.

Make no mistake. This is not mere “persuasion” attempts. This is a genuine effort to silence opposition of the Left. (See every socialist and communist nation ever.) And the Left and Hollywood are getting support for their censorship from an unlikely place.

Good Time for Good News

This Week:  Over the past few months we’ve been able to experience what President Trump has done for our courts, especially the 9th Circuit.  There have actually been decisions made in the past few weeks that support things like, oh you know, the rule of law.

With just that one amazing change, Trump may finally be able to make a decision without being hauled into court, as the Left tries any trick to try stop. And this subtle but important change means we can look at some of the new rules knowing they may actually be enacted.

Good News for the Endangered Species Act

One of those are incredibly important changes he’s made to the Endangered Species Act. And, naturally, what’s being reported about simple changes that could lead to actual recovery of these species is being mis-reported that it will destroy a “vitally needed” government program.

This act that was to save animals from extinction because the money resource for far-left organizations who abused it through their sue-and-settle actions.  Rather than trying to protect animals from harm they wanted to raise funds by suing while having prelimary agreements from Deep State bureaucrats to happily ensure the government would lose its case so that they could pay out high and outrageous attorney fees back to them.  A legal loop hold that until recently was handing over millions to pro-environmental-anti-human groups.

With that atrocious practice eliminated, we turn our focus to the changes Trump’s administration has actually made to the ESA and its new benefits to species and to landowners.  Dr. Zybach walks us through what he’s seen in how the landowner is now empowered to help with the ESA and why that’s a good thing.

Also, don’t miss his personal encounter with the Endangered Species Act, Oregon’s “other Spotted Owl”, the Marbled Murrelet. It’s a good example of abuse by the scientific community and what happens when you sacrifice science on the altar of politics. Then we turn to Hollywood, the last place we expected to see good news this week and talk with James Hirsen about one star of pop culture who is making a dramatic change —to Christian music.

Kanye West, who recently became a born-again Christian, has a new album coming out in September.  Mr. Hirsen walks us through Kanye and his wife, Kim Kardashian, have a tremendous impact on pop culture and why the Far Left may push back against them. Or just flat out turn on them. Because, you know, kids listening to an enlightened and positive message is clearly so dangerous.

We also have a momentary dip into the darker side of Bernie Sanders who wants population control because of (drum roll) global warming. He wants to sacrifice life to save us from death, sigh.

But we only stay on the dark side for a little bit and quickly turn back to some more good news—the newest Christian movie, Overcomer, and its powerful message.

This week, it’s all good fun, and uplifting, except for Bernie’s message.  But then again, when is anything socialist ever good news?

Because as long as America stands, the people of their countries will always look to America and say, why can’t we have their freedoms?

This Week: We’ve all heard a baby’s laugh that makes the world light up.  At that moment, it feels as if we’re shielded from the darkness, a little bubble where the innocent are protected.

But where there is light there is also darkness and one of the darkest parts of that same world is human trafficking. Where innocence is destroyed. Smothered by men and women who turn innocence into a commodity.  Something to be sold, traded, and exploited. However, there is hope. 

Human Trafficking: It’s real and it’s in the U.S.

It seems impossible but even right here in the U.S., the land of the free, human trafficking—in all 50 states—not only exists but in some cases thrives.

Sadly, the numbers of those exploited are rising. According to the FBI, human trafficking is thought to be the 3rd largest criminal activity world-wide.  A world-wide epidemic of condemning children and adults to a lifetime of anger and hopelessness.  And it happens everywhere, rural and urban, to all ages, and to men, women, boys, and girls.

But this show is about help. And hope. Plus, it not only exposes what’s happening, but it will give you tools to help others get out from this nightmare.

Hope and Help: Beulah’s Place

So to understand more about human trafficking, we talk with Andi Buerger, the CEO and Founder of Beulah’s Place located in Redmond, Oregon.  Andi, a survivor of human trafficking herself, has created a support system for homeless children, including those who have been trapped in the human trafficking world.

Beulah’s Place focuses on getting these children food, clothing, and a place to sleep. They also find them supports that will start the healing process and lead to another life.  Listen to find out what her work has meant to so many youth who without her organization’s help felt trapped and unloved.

Get Help and Healing

Then we bring in Karen Kataline, a fellow talk-show host. Karen holds an MSW (masters of social work) and talks to us about the healing process that takes place as these young people start to learn a new norm.  She discusses what behaviors to look for, the types of counseling that have proven to help, and this very real problem of human trafficking in today’s society.

So why is this so important? Aside from the cruelty, stopping human trafficking can have long-term impact. Because human trafficking and abuse causes generational problems to fester in our society.  Left alone the rage, self-hate, confusion, and feelings of betrayal these children and adults experience will impact our future for generations to come.  Child abuse is no longer something we can turn our backs on. Perpetrators have only become more bold and more aggressive. We cannot ignore this problem any longer.

The Dept. of Homeland Security is actively fighting human trafficking and trying to raise awareness under the banner of The Blue Campaign. They have a tremendous amount of resources and places to get help.

  • According to some estimates, approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation, and 19% involves labor exploitation (Dosomething.org)
  • 40 percent of U.S. human trafficking happens in the Southeast
  • Human Trafficking Is an Epidemic in the U.S. It’s Also Big Business (via Fortune, April 14, 2019)
    • “Human trafficking is estimated to bring in global profits of about $150 billion a year—$99 billion from sexual exploitation, according to the International Labor Organization. Nearly 9,000 cases in the U.S. were reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline and BeFree Textline in 2017—a 13% increase from the prior year, according to the Polaris Project. But this data is incomplete, as cases are severely underreported.”
    • “Some of the biggest factors that lead vulnerable children to become vulnerable adults are poverty, homelessness, abuse at home, the foster system, and glamorization of the sex industry, what is essentially a “pipeline of vulnerability,” said Dr. Sharon Cooper, founder and CEO of Developmental and Forensic Pediatrics.”

This Week: Despite no shortage of political news this week, we are taking a break from it all to celebrate Easter.  But this week, Friday at sundown, was also Passover. Did you know that the symbolism within Passover’s sacred meal, the Seder Feast, point to Jesus as the Messiah? Our guest thinks so. We’re pleased to welcome for the first time to our show Dan Sered, COO of Jews for Jesus on the symbolism of Jesus in the Passover. 

Passover Meal: The Origins of Communion

As Christians, we all know about Communion. It’s a meal many Christians celebrate monthly or even weekly. But how much do you really know about Passover, which is the origin for Communion?

As the name implies, Jews for Jesus is an organization of Jews who believe that Jesus was and is the Messiah. We invite Dan on to walk us through the Passover meal, how it’s celebrated and the many deep traditions within the highly structured and ordered Seder meal.

For thousands of years, Jews embraced the prophecies of the Old Testament that would reveal the Messiah. But as you’ll hear, so much of the Passover meal itself—this most sacred meal so central to Judaism—actually symbolize and point to the very Messiah they’ve rejected. Jesus. You’ll also hear the struggle many Jews go through when (as other Jews see it) they “leave” the faith.

Join us to hear the traditions and symbolism of this sacred meal. We reflect on the symbolism, its ties to Christianity, and how the routine and order taken throughout Passover represent God has laid out a plan and process for our life and salvation.

This week: In the first of a two-part show, we open our discussion with Kamal Saleem, about the ties between socialism and Islam. Kamal is a former cultural jihadist who converted to Christianity after he’d come to America to destroy it from withing. This week, our focus is: Are there jihadists in Congress?

There are a lot of similarities between the two political philosophies (and, yes, Islam is a political ideology). They both believe in the supremacy of their own ideology. They both believe in collectivism. They both believe in killing the opposition. But it doesn’t stop there.

Our talk with Kamal takes some interesting and surprising turns.

We talk with him about hte two newly elected Congresswomen who are both Muslims. Ilhan Omar has received the bulk of the attention with her anti-Semetic tweets but Rashid Talib is every bit as radical. Both are socialists.

In past I Spy Radio shows, we’ve wondered about the two ideologies—socialism and Islam. They are very similar in their world view (except on societal issues). Both use similar tactics and strategies to further their goals. Lying, obfuscation. Promising one thing and delivering another. Dividing society into groups and making them hate one another. Both socialism and Islam target the same segments of society—the disaffected and disgruntled.

On this week’s show we continue our talk with Kamal Saleem to discuss socialism’s ties with and similarities to radical Islam. Kamal is a former cultural jihadist who had been commissioned by a Saudi prince to go to America and destroy it from within.He has since converted to Christianity and it is now his life’s mission to wake up the Church and America to the dangers of radical Islam. His mission now is to see “Ishmael redeemed.”

But prior to being sent to the U.S., Kamal had first been sent to the United Kingdom in the 1970s. He recently had an opportunity to visit those areas where he had set up jihadist cells. Tune in to hear what he saw and the fruits of his labors.

We also talk with him about the surprising foundation of the Muslim Brotherhood, which got its founding money from a surprising source.
