This Week – Elliott State Research Forest Plan Sidelined

After years of planning (scheming) and millions of dollars spent on the deal to decommission Oregon’s largest state forest. out of the blue, Oregon State University president, Jayathi Murthy, backed out. That took real courage. As I Spy Radio has been saying all along, this was never going to make financial sense. Nor environmental sense for the endangered species the environmentalists claimed they wanted to help.

What happened?

We talk with long-time guest and I Spy Radio‘s “in house” forestry and timber expert, Dr. Bob Zybach about why this forest deal was a boondoggle from the start. And with Jen Hamaker, president of ONRI, whose organization helped drive public outcry against Oregon’s statewide Habitat Conservation Plan. And how that outcry helped lead OSU’s president to make the right decision.

The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Environmentalists

As of this writing, this looks like a win for Oregon. And common sense.

Remember, Oregon, by law, is supposed to be making money for the Common School Fund from its forests. But Far Left environmentalists have seized control in Oregon and are working to do anything but harvest timber. Which means they really don’t understand the environment at all. Just ask the tribal nations.

Who did, in fact, tell the environmentalists exactly that. The Elliott State Research Forest would not work. Not financially. And not be sustainable environmentally either. It would, in fact, create a worse habitat for the species they claimed they wanted to protect.

If it can’t be resurrected by December 31, 2023, the deal will sunset. Thankfully, OSU staff saw the impractical and nonviable finances and withdrew. (Keep in mind, this was a management scheme cooked up by so-called “environmentalists.”) But was there more afoot here than meets the eye? Was it all a scheme to put something else in place? This Week: Drought and Wildfires

Never let a good catastrophe go to waste. That’s been the democrat and socialist mantra for decades.

But, worse, they create the crisis and offer the solution. We’re certainly seeing that with covid, a disease that you’re virtually guaranteed to survive with a average 99.8% recovery rate. But why let math get in the way of politicized science.

And there’s no place they do this more than the environment.

Wildfires: It’s not Global Warming, Stupid

First up we talk with our go-to expert, Dr. Bob Zybach, about the so-called “historic” drought. Is it? And of course drought impacts forests, which the so-called environments refuse to manage. Why is that?

Because, of course, you can make money on a crisis. Nobody throws millions of dollars at a problem that is easily managed. But if you create fear, you create opportunity. The political and financial kind. And why solve a problem like drought if you can exploit a never-ending river of money out of it?

But are people starting to wake up to the scam? Not enough. Yet. But there are cracks in their armor. Years ago, they never would have said that the forests have been mismanaged for decades. Like Oregon’s governor did just a dew weeks ago on a national news program. Excuse me, governor? Which party has been managing Oregon’s forests for decades. Oh, yes. That would be the democrats.

If they’re admitting it, maybe, just maybe, we can start solving the problems. But it’ll cost ya. If democrats are allowed to stay in power.

The Real Drought: Taking Action on Fixable Problems

Keep in mind, drought has been part of mankind’s existence since mankind existed. It’s not that there aren’t solutions. It’s that solving a problem means you can’t exploit it. And that’s what drives democrats right now. A crisis you create and just happen to have organizations that meets the needs of that crisis — without actually solving the crisis — is a situation that you can exploit. For literally billions.

We talk with Oregon Senator Dennis Linthicum from the Klamath Falls area — the focal point of environmental exploitation for decades.

It’s not that there isn’t water, it’s that the water is allowed to flow into the ocean. Without benefiting man nor fish. Think about it. If you let water go down stream, how does that benefit the fish you’re trying to save.

But is there something sinister afoot?

Environmentalists have tried for years to drive farmers off their land. Land that without water is both useless and worthless. And if farmers can’t make it, they could be forced to sell their land for pennies on the dollar.

And, abracadabra, environmentalists who buy that land could turn around and sell it $100 acres for $10,000 per acre mitigation credits. Some areas of the country would buy them for $50,000 an acre. And here you thought Lefties were against profits.

They are. When someone else makes it.

This Week: There is some good news that you’ve probably never heard before.

But before we get there, breaking this week were details of what we warned you about a few weeks ago. Details of Governor Brown’s secret meetings with timber companies have come to light, including the start of a deal between timber companies and environmental groups that is taking the wind out of Senate Republicans’ sails. A deal that, despite the 10,000 people who showed up Timber Unity had any say in.

And don’t think she didn’t know exactly why she was doing to sabotage Timber Unity. It is with the deepest sense of betrayal we see these kinds of tricks — instead of straightforward, honest discussions where all sides have a say.

The Good News: Trump Administration’s Exciting Budget Proposal

But, as we said, there is some good news and something you’ve probably never heard before: the words “exciting” and budget proposal” used in the same sentence.

This week we start our conversation with Jonathan Williams, of American Legislative Exchange Council. We’ll discuss with him Trump’s exciting budget proposal that does what so many fiscal conservatives have dreamt of: a return to a balanced budget, honest-to-goodness cuts in federal spending. Be sure to tune in and hear about the 6 million dead people who are finally going to get their checks cut off. Jonathan will also give us the honest-to-goodness look at Oregon’s economic outlook.  An article was recently published touting Oregon’s beating the national economic trends — but we dig into the reality.

The Bad News: Did Timber Betray Timber Unity?

Then we have Dr. Bob Zybach back due to the secret meeting Gov Kate has been having with 13 timber companies and environmental groups.  For someone who has defended the timber industries for decades, you can imagine this secret backroom deal felt like a real betrayal. We discuss the timing and look into the memorandum of understanding itself. We can only guess they’re trying to accomplish—because none of it makes sense.

But get used to this type of behavior if the cap and trade bill goes in.  Salem’s Democrats have purposefully put in measures to keep hidden from public records requests how the government will spend their new revenue. And to whom they will give it.

But we can guess.

A Carbon Tax: Wrong Thinking

Why is a carbon tax a bad idea? In the first segment of this weekend’s show, host Mark Anderson, thoroughly walks you through the problems of how and why a carbon cap & trade scheme damages an economy and how it violates normal free-market forces.

A carbon tax not only doesn’t work for what they claim it’s supposed to do, but it places an increasing financial burden on citizens. California is a prime example of what happens as its citizens and businesses flee the state. One report has shown tens of thousands of businesses fled California, directly because of California’s carbon tax, in a process known in political circles as “leakage.” Basically, leakage is “How many businesses will leave the state if we pass this bill?”

Also, don’t miss “all you need to know” about “global warming.” It’ll give you some ammunition to use in the coming fight against Oregon’s carbon tax, cap & trade bill.

Timber Unity

Government bureaucrats and far-left politicians who support cap & trade seem to believe they know better than the people they’re supposed to represent. Last year the people came together to put their foot down.

The Timber Unity rally on the capitol steps drew together people in rural areas who were tired of latte-sipping liberals looking down their noses at hicks from the country not knowing liberals are just saving the planet. (I wonder how they think the coffee they’d sipping got to their little coffee house?)

Oregon’s Carbon Tax: New and Improved? Hardly.

Even though Salem’s Democrat legislators are trying to sell the “new and improved” carbon bill as something that would only impact people in the city (for now) it’s simply not true. Because more than 80% of all Oregonian communities have their only means of goods shipped, in or out, are only by truck.

Be sure to tune in to hear the mindset of how these politicians feel about rural areas and who they pretend to protect. What Senator President, Peter Courtney told Timber Unity rally participants right from the start will make your jaw drop.

Good News for Oregon’s Forests?

Then we bring back our timber expert, Dr. Bob Zybach, who continues the conversation on the downfalls of a carbon tax and cap & trade schemes. We hear about how the law negatively impacts our forest management processes, a vital economic impact to Oregon. You’ll get a laugh over OSU’s latest scheme to save the planet. Good Time for Good News

This Week:  Over the past few months we’ve been able to experience what President Trump has done for our courts, especially the 9th Circuit.  There have actually been decisions made in the past few weeks that support things like, oh you know, the rule of law.

With just that one amazing change, Trump may finally be able to make a decision without being hauled into court, as the Left tries any trick to try stop. And this subtle but important change means we can look at some of the new rules knowing they may actually be enacted.

Good News for the Endangered Species Act

One of those are incredibly important changes he’s made to the Endangered Species Act. And, naturally, what’s being reported about simple changes that could lead to actual recovery of these species is being mis-reported that it will destroy a “vitally needed” government program.

This act that was to save animals from extinction because the money resource for far-left organizations who abused it through their sue-and-settle actions.  Rather than trying to protect animals from harm they wanted to raise funds by suing while having prelimary agreements from Deep State bureaucrats to happily ensure the government would lose its case so that they could pay out high and outrageous attorney fees back to them.  A legal loop hold that until recently was handing over millions to pro-environmental-anti-human groups.

With that atrocious practice eliminated, we turn our focus to the changes Trump’s administration has actually made to the ESA and its new benefits to species and to landowners.  Dr. Zybach walks us through what he’s seen in how the landowner is now empowered to help with the ESA and why that’s a good thing.

Also, don’t miss his personal encounter with the Endangered Species Act, Oregon’s “other Spotted Owl”, the Marbled Murrelet. It’s a good example of abuse by the scientific community and what happens when you sacrifice science on the altar of politics. Then we turn to Hollywood, the last place we expected to see good news this week and talk with James Hirsen about one star of pop culture who is making a dramatic change —to Christian music.

Kanye West, who recently became a born-again Christian, has a new album coming out in September.  Mr. Hirsen walks us through Kanye and his wife, Kim Kardashian, have a tremendous impact on pop culture and why the Far Left may push back against them. Or just flat out turn on them. Because, you know, kids listening to an enlightened and positive message is clearly so dangerous.

We also have a momentary dip into the darker side of Bernie Sanders who wants population control because of (drum roll) global warming. He wants to sacrifice life to save us from death, sigh.

But we only stay on the dark side for a little bit and quickly turn back to some more good news—the newest Christian movie, Overcomer, and its powerful message.

This week, it’s all good fun, and uplifting, except for Bernie’s message.  But then again, when is anything socialist ever good news?

Oregon’s Forests: A Victim of Leftist Policies

Leftist policies - A product of the socialist brain of a liberalBelieve it or not, August in Oregon used to be free of major forest fires for decades but why isn’t it now?  Why have massive fires become a way of life for the summer landscape in Oregon, California, and the rest of the West?

We’ll talk about this with Dr. Bob Zybach, someone who studied Oregon’s history of forest fires for his dissertation and is an avid proponent for bringing back practical and realistic forest management policies to Oregon. A state that should be leading the way on setting proper forest management polices. Except we’re too concerned that environmentalists will froth at the mouth over policies that actually acknowledge mankind is part of the environment. But we digress.

Dr. Zybach is also a frequent guest on I Spy Radio. Dr. Bob is back on to take us through what should be happening with our forests during spring time as summer is fast approaching. We know that farmers and ranchers are busy during this time of year preparing for the growing season, so should foresters.

Mr. Blevins litigates cases involving the First Amendment, property rights, school choice, and the separation of powers.  So we talk to him about the new rent control Oregon’s legislature just passed and why its policies will end up raising costs of living—the exact opposite of what they propose to do.

Why? Because the policy completely ignores one of the most basic elements of economics. Not one of those fancy a computer models that predict global cooling—wait, no, warming, er, no, change!—but from long-tested and proven economic science.  But what do we know?

And don’t miss our conversation with Mr. Blevin about Oregon’s supermajority and the potential abuse of powers that come with it. Yes, the Democrats have a 3/5ths supermajority in the House and Senate and yes they hold the governorship. But there’s still hope. And from a surprising source. Why is it when we discuss natural resources it seems as if immediately those resources are always aligned with environmental issues?  Why is it they are never considered resources and their impact on income and expenses instead?  Especially when we are discussing rural communities who are nearing bankruptcy. A family turns to their bank accounts (their resource) as they determine budgets.  Shouldn’t a state such as Oregon who has natural resources in their land “bank” be doing the same?

For instance, the wild fires that burned over a million acres of resources this past summer cost Oregon taxpayers a lot of money. That burn cost Oregonians a minimum of half a billion dollars.  Money that Oregon’s depleted bank resources doesn’t have.  And what’s the answer that Kate Brown, Oregon’s governor, has come up with?  Sell off a state forest that if managed is capable of supplying $400 million for Oregon’s schools. And not only does she want to sell it off, but she wants to sell it off at a quarter of its value.  A very bad deal.

Our first guest, Dr. Bob Zybach, focuse s on why harvesting and managing our forests and natural resources would not only save Oregon tax payers money, it would make them a small fortune. And if managed well would turn around an economic disaster in rural communities. Who wants to inhale smoked-filled skies or watch wildlife habitat be destroyed?  No one.  It’s a no-brainer to get behind and support people who are willing to step up and offer solutions. Dr. Zybach offers his well-researched, practical experiences he’s had as a hands-on forester to stop this nonsense of fires in Oregon.

We then turn to Republican gubernatorial candidate, Sam Carpenter, who has very intriguing ideas on how to get Oregon into a positive win/win scenario on these needless fires and to get Oregon into overall financial health.  A 30-year, highly experienced businessman specializing in fixing businesses in trouble, Mr. Carpenter brings a wide compliment of innovative ideas into the mix.  Having been a forester himself, he pinpoints the problems Oregonians want solved regarding forests and forest management.

Using his professional experience as a successful CEO he discusses not only his thoughts on forest management but how he’d tap into the advisors he’s already working with to find the best solutions to stop the needless waste.  A man who’s lived in rural areas all of his life, he understands the value of bringing their rural areas up to standards with living wages the way it used to be in Oregon.

And don’t miss his notions on how to win in Oregon.  Hint: It’s not about “reaching across the aisle” by giving up your principles, which is what so many Republicans think they need to do to attract Democrat votes.

George Soros spends millions to topple governments. He makes billions from the ensuing chaos. He wields power across the globe, in part because of a compliant mainstream media—which is mute either because they fear him or because he buys their silence by supporting their Leftist causes. George Soros made his fortune from shrewd investments but also by betting on destruction (his famous short selling of the British pound) and by supporting dictators only to demand special favors from them after their “elections.”

If there is an anti-traditional-American-values organization, you can bet George Soros is likely behind it. Anti-guns, anti-traditional marriage, anti-federalist, anti-religion, and on and on. He is also known for heavily “investing” in Far Left environmental causes, in part because they are anti-capitalism. (As we say here on I Spy Radio, healthcare is how the Left controls people; the environmental movement is how the Left controls industry and corporations.)

Dr. Bob Zybach on the Sale of the Elliot State Forest

We start the show with Dr. Bob Zybach. For years, the Far Left environmentalists have had a stranglehold on politics in Oregon. This has led to massive waste and lost revenue from State Public Lands, like the Elliot State Forest, which is northeast of Coos Bay on the Oregon coast.

How bad is it? Oregon loses tens of millions every year thanks to mismanagement—when it should be making at least $5 million per year. The losses have been piling up, year after year, with timber either rotting away or burning away in forest fires, that the State has decided to cut its losses (rather than cutting trees—at a profit, mind you) that Oregon has decided to sell this 80,000 acres. The land is valued at $800 million. But thanks to the terms and conditions and regulations piled on it, they only received one bid: for $200 million. Just 25% of the value. And which will only generate 10 jobs.

But there’s a better way. Dr. Zybach walks us through what is happening with the sale and how a decades’ old, common-sense plan could be the answer. If only Oregonians can make politicians listen.

Exposing George Soros, Part 1

We then turn to Ron Arnold, for Part 1 of our examination of George Soros, the billionaire behind so much of America’s current woes. Mr. Arnold got his journalistic start back in the 1990s when Oregon had the Spotted Owl fiasco that ended up destroying Oregon’s logging industry, much to the surprise of many in the timber business.  They were surprised because nobody took it seriously that an owl could shut down a whole industry.

Mr. Arnold has written ten books and edited 12. His special focus is the means the Left funds its operations. He has made a special focus of George Soros. And, thanks to a former Soros staffer, Mr. Arnold has the goods on George Soros.

We’ll walk you through how George Soros lurched into politics—thanks to several names you’ll recognize and who are still operating behind the scenes today.  You’ll also hear how Soros developed unique operational strategies and why they are more successful than those on the Right.

This week is a broad look at George Soros and how he spins his many-layered webs. Tune in to hear how Soros helped bring down the Soviet Union, his organizational operations, his hypocrisies, and how he does what he does.
