12-43 Those “Down Ballot Races” Made Easy — With Superior Candidates

12-43 Those “Down Ballot Races” Made Easy — With Superior Candidates

Show Summary: ALL races matter. No, not those races. All political races matter. This week we talk about two of the “down ballot” races: the commissioner for BOLI (I know—what the heck is that, right?) and Oregon’s new 6th congressional district. The Bureau of Labor and Industries (that’s what BOLI is), oversees Oregon’s trade school, civil rights issues, and housing. Find out why both of these races have superior candidates. Hint: They’re not the democrats.

This Week – Those Down Ballot Races

This year, you cannot vote just the top of the ticket — governor — and ignore all those down ballot races. They are every bit as important as the governor’s race. In part, because the Republican governor will need all the republicans she can get.

But it’s more than just house and senate races. There are other “down ballot races” you need to pay attention to. And one of them is the BOLI commissioner. A little-known race that helps set the tone for the rest of the state’s business environment.

Sometimes, these races are hard to figure out. But this year, it’s especially easy: vote Republican. In every race. Down ballot or otherwise. And it’s made even more easy with clearly superior candidates in the two down-ballot races we’re talking about on this week’s show.

Cheri Helt for BOLI Commissioner

The Bureau of Labor and Industries has had a democrat stranglehold on it for decades. Perhaps that’s why we’re short tens of thousands of trade jobs in this state as Kitzhaber and Brown wanted to shove everyone into university and practically shamed kids if the even thought of a job in the skilled trades.

You can find Cheri’s campaign website at www.CheriHelt.com

The Bureau of Labor and Industries (that’s what BOLI is), oversees Oregon’s trade schools (electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc.), civil rights issues, fair housing practices and more. Oregon has a huge housing shortage and a shortage of workers Democrats have been in charge of BOLI for decades. And with their college-first, trades-bad mindset, it’s no surprise.

Cheri’s opponent, Christina Stephenson, is a lawyer who wants yet more authority for BOLI. Hmm. Oregon’s BOLI famously sued Melissa’s Sweet Cakes because Melissa didn’t want to bake a cake for a gay couple. Is that what Christina has in mind for more authority? We just went through Covid with no end of “more authority.” Do we really want a progressive lawyer in there who’d love nothing more than to sue even more businesses out of business because they don’t fit her politics?

That’s not what Oregon needs. More politics pushed on businesses. Oh. And Christina wants more funding for BOLI. Probably because hiring more attorneys gets expensive.

No thanks. We’ll take Cheri.

Mike Erickson for Oregon’s CD6

This week we welcome back actual businessman, Mike Erickson. Who, unlike his opponent, knows what supply chains are and how disrupting them can and does impact the economy. Which is more than we can say for Biden or anyone in his administration. Which seems to only want to blame oil companies.

Learn more about Mike Erickson by visiting his campaign website, www.MikeEricksonforCongress.org

The latest? Blaming Biden’s exploding gas prices on oil companies’ profits. What? Do they not know what profits are? Or how not spending on oil exploration or purchasing federal oil leases (which they wouldn’t be allowed to use under Biden) or any the other normal business expenses will make profits go up?

It’s embarrassing to think, but third-graders running a lemonade stand have more practical knowledge of basic economics principles and more hands-on understanding of supply and demand than Joe Biden. Or anyone in his administration, apparently.

And did the democrats’ gerrymandering catch up with them as they spread Portland’s potential influence too thin into four congressional districts, not just the two Portland actually deserved? Now, with so much of Portland angry at democrat Ted Wheeler and an astounding 82% (82!!) wanting MORE police, not less, democrats may have spread Portland’s influence all right.

Just not in the direction they intended.

Air Dates: May 23 & 24, 2020 | Clay Clark

This Week: Memorial Day weekend reminds us of all the American men and women in the military that lost their lives to protect our freedoms. And we’ve just lived through how, in only a few short weeks, those freedoms could be lost.

Reopening America: Fighting Fear, Fighting Democrats

Governors, almost exclusively Democrats, seemed to relish canceling freedom and liberty using their dictator-like powers, including Oregon’s Governor Kate Brown who claimed her powers exceeded not only the Oregon Constitution but even the U.S. Constitution. She and she alone could decide who could walk the streets, keep their business open, and who couldn’t.

Not to mention she could cancel your First Amendment rights to gather to worship by declaring churches a health hazard — while deciding Wal-Mart was not.

But it begs the larger question. What are they so afraid of? The virus? Or losing power? Right now, it seems they are more afraid of losing their grip on power than winning against the virus.

Entrepreneurs and Reopening America

It’s a mixed show this weekend. But in a good way. We bring to our show for the first time a quite different type of show for I Spy with our guest Clay Clark, an award-winning businessman for his entrepreneurial expertise. Clay has helped over 2,300 businesses and we wanted to get his thoughts on reopening America. And the important role entrepreneurs can and will play.

Clay discusses his devout beliefs in God and our county’s amazing freedoms. Using humor to approach difficult issues, Clay also talks about his deep frustrations with shut down orders. He points to Sweden, who despite not having any shutdowns, has had only 6 deaths per one million persons. He discusses their approach to COVID and why they have such a low death rate, along with the wrong decisions made here that led to worse results, despite being “based on science.”

Science will Save Us! Or is it being used to push Fear?

Not stopping there, Clay launches into government orders that keep shifting as “the science” shifts and what it’s done to business owners, let alone families. Or experts using error-filled computer models, which were never right, as the justification to keep us all locked up. And as states start to reopen and the fears some may feel, Clay, talks about what it will take for people to rebuild their life, or start a new business, or how to keep a business going.

As his sense of humor targets those politicians and experts who have given us ridiculous rules to follow, it’s a show that you will want to seatbelt yourself in and prepare for takeoff.

Fear Unmasked: Discover the truth about the Corona Virus Shutdown

We also spend a couple of segments discussing his recent ebook, Fear Unmasked: Discover the Truth about the Corona Virus Shutdown. The book is available as a free e-book because it was banned on Amazon. You’ll have to tune in to hear why.

Download Fear Unmasked as a PDF here

But we can say it exposes Dr. Fauci and his work with the Bill Gates Foundation as they rush toward a vaccine and virus tracking, which they hope will be forced on every American.

And before you think it will never happen here, famed attorney Alan Dershowitz—who only a few months ago was defending the President against unconstitutional impeachment efforts—recently aired his true feelings and said you have no Constitutional right to not be vaccinated. The government, he said, has the absolute right to drag you to a doctor and forcibly plunge the needle in your arm.

These are the “freedoms” our brave vets fought and died for?

Check out Alan Dershowitz appalling video, in which he proclaims The State can force you to get a vaccine and you have no Constitutional right to say no. Fast forward to 21:00

And don’t miss Clay’s announcement of his big Memorial Day, outdoor church gathering in Chicago where thousands are expected to gather. Go here for more details and check the Facebook page for live streams of the event.) Christian leadership, such as Mike Huckabee are helping to get the word out. Live streaming the event he’s hoping many will watch as they remember our fallen.

States are in constant competition for people and businesses — with businesses leaving high tax states and people voting with their feet. Find out why Socialism and “Tax Cronyism” drive people away.

One this week’s show, we give Bernie Sander’s voters a headache.

Over the past ten years New York State has lost millions of residents and thousands of businesses that had all had it with NY’s high taxes and moved to other states.  They’ve moved to find a better place to live where owning a business or property isn’t suffocated, to where they didn’t have to feel like they were being held up at gun point by their own state.

Funny how that works, isn’t it? Our entire history is one of moving to better economic conditions. Leaving the “old country” for the chance to make a better, more profitable life. Moving west on the Oregon Trail or the California Gold Rush. People are not chained to their states — and the moment they feel they are, they move.

Bernie Sanders voters don't understand economicsWhile Bernie Sanders’ voters may not like to think about economics or the consequences of raising taxes, there are 50 states that all have their own sets of economic policies that have consequences, of action and reaction. And shrewd consumers of democracy can make decisions on where and how they live based on a free market principal—competition is good because it reduces costs and drives efficiency.

In their 8th Edition of Rich States, Poor States, Jonathan Williams and his co-authors, Dr. Author Laffer, and Stephen Moore have once again captured how states make their economic decisions and the consequences of those policy decisions.  Policies that impact your pocket book and quality of life and that should influence who you’ll vote into office.

Tune in to find out:
•    What drives a state’s economic success or failure
•    Tax Cronyism and how it ruins free markets
•    Can states or the federal government be run more like a business?
•    Which states have changed their liberal ways to create a strong, pro growth environment

With state and federal elections coming up soon this is a show not to miss.

This week, it’s about economics. Yeah, yeah. Don’t groan. You need to know this stuff. Otherwise, you’ll be boondoggled into thinking raising taxes is good. Or that raising minimum wage doesn’t impact businesses. Or big government works. Or any number of progressive ideologies. Next thing you know, you’ll be believing global warming and then it’s all down hill from there.

With guests Jonathan Williams of American Legislative Exchange Council and Jan Meekcoms of National Federation of Independent Businesses.

Rally ‘Round the Flag Event

When: Saturday, June 20, 2015, 10am – 4pm
Where: Fairgrounds, Cottage Grove, Oregon
Cost: Free!

Here in Oregon, we have a strong heritage of using our natural resources wisely. But well-intended yet weak-minded “environmentalists” believe they are “protecting” the environment by not touching it–or allowing anyone else to harvest them. Worse, our lands are being controlled by people out east who’ve never set foot on them and have no idea about how to manage them; people who’ve been persuaded by the well-funded environmental lobby that we should never touch these lands.

Oregon Citizen’s Lobby invites you to join them for a fantastic day of speakers, networking, and fun! And a chance to learn more about the effort to transfer control of the federal lands to the people who know best how to manage them: Oregonians.

The event will feature prominent leaders in this effort, booths, networking opportunities, and a panel discussion to answer your questions.

Featured Guests:

  • Rep. Ken Ivory (UT) of the American Lands Council
  • Noah Wall, FreedomWorks Grassroots Director
  • Jeff Kropf, Oregon Capital Watch
  • Mark Anderson, host of I Spy Radio
  • David Hunnicutt, Oregonians in Action
  • Dennis Linthicum, former Klamath County Commissioner
